Eddi & Ewi find a new home

Hello! We’re Eddi and Ewi, and we live here at the BEECH Resort Fleesensee. But it wasn’t always like this!

We used to live in a big, old tree in the middle of a deep forest. It was warm, cozy, and perfect for two squirrels like us. But one morning, we were woken up by a loud noise. Cautiously, we peeked out of our nest. There were lots of people with huge machines. Trees were lying on the ground everywhere! So we gathered all our courage, jumped from our nest, and ran as fast as we could.

But where could we go? We searched all day long, but we couldn’t find another tree as nice and big as our old one, with a comfy den to sleep in.

When it got dark, we met a hedgehog. “You can stay with me for a while,” he said kindly. So we snuggled up under the leaves and branches with him. But during the night, it got cold and when we tried to cuddle the hedgehog to warm up, his prickles poked us! Not quite as cozy as our tree. So in the morning, we thanked him and said goodbye.

That evening, we came across a big beech tree. It even had a hollow in the trunk! “Perfect!” we thought, and climbed up right away. But someone already lived there: an owl. “Oh well, you can stay for a bit,” she offered. Grateful and sleepy, we curled up. But soon enough, we were woken up once again. The owl was awake all night, hooting and flapping. It was so noisy, we couldn’t get any sleep! The next morning, tired and grumpy, we continued our search.

Out on a wide meadow, we met a friendly mole. “Come with me, you can stay at my place,” he said. But underground it was cramped and pitch dark. We couldn’t even tell if it was day or night! So we thanked the mole and kept searching for a home.

By now, we were really tired. We hadn’t slept properly in days. Just as we were about to give up, we spotted something in the distance — tall trees and colorful little houses! Carefully, we crept closer and climbed up into one of the trees. It was peaceful, with only a few laughing children nearby. And there were plenty of acorns and nuts! Then we saw it: a cozy little hollow high up in the branches. Without thinking twice, we climbed in. It was perfect.

And that’s how we found our new home — here at the BEECH Resort at Fleesensee. We fell asleep at last, safe and happy.
